We endeavor to breed a beautiful English of moderate type and sound temperament retaining the hunting instinct which could easily fulfill any owners desire for a healthy, friendly and loyal companion or family dog, a show dog or a walking gun dog.
About Our Kennel
Wyndswept kennel is located in Eagle, Idaho; a suburb of Boise, Idaho's capital city. Eagle is in the southwestern corner of the state, surrounded on the northeast by the Bogus mountain range which is usually beautifully snow-capped from November to May.
Wyndswept English Setters was formally established in 1987. In 1994, Elliott B. Weiss and myself, Debra J. Mack DVM began breeding English setters in partnership and redefined the mission statement for the breeding program of the Wyndswept kennel. We set out to find two good breeding bitches that came as close to exemplifying our picture of the breed as we could. One of those bitches, CH Set'r Ridge Wyndswept In Gold, has gone on to be the foundation of our breeding program today.
Elliott was a successful all breed handler on the East Coast for 27 years after which he retired from handling and started his AKC judging career. He presently is licensed to judge the Sporting, Terrier and Hound Groups. He comes to our breeding program with tremendous knowledge about the purpose of selecting for certain traits, structural as well as temperament, because of their importance to the function of the English Setter as an upland game bird hunter.
I also come from a dog oriented career being a practicing small animal veterinarian since 1980. I was 6 years old when my family got our first English Setter and have personally never known a time without one being present in my life. I originally established the Wyndswept Kennel in 1987 and have been involved in breeding and showing English Setters since that time.
Wyndswept English Setters is a small kennel. We maintain only about 6 setters for our breeding stock. We keep the numbers low and the quality high. As such, all our dogs get ample attention and time in the house with us. Our English setters are first pets and family members to us. All of our youngsters retained for show and future breeding are breeder-owner handled to their championships.
