If you are considering buying an English Setter- you should know.... The English Setter is a long coated breed and requires a certain amount of coat maintenance and grooming. The long coat can be trimmed off, but it still requires some basic grooming over the short coated sporting breeds. Yes, the English Setter does shed, but so do the short coated breeds. One sheds long hairs and the other sheds short hairs. The English Setter is a very affectionate dog and they bond very closely to their owners. These dogs, even if used for hunting, are pets that like to be with their humans. If you are looking for a dog to live outside or in a kennel, the English Setter is probably not your best choice. The average life span of the English Setter is 12-14 years of age. If you buy a puppy, consider that you will be taking on a responsibility to that animal for the next 12-14 years. If you are looking for a field trial dog to hunt behind on horseback, our dogs should not be your first choice. Our dogs are better suited for a close working, walking gun dog. |
